Hello Kitty Cafe

After a lot of plans fell through a friend and I decided to check out the Hello Kitty Cafe in Myeongdong. There are a couple different ones throughout Seoul and one on Jeju-do. But the closest one for us was the one in Myeong-dong. It’s on the 2nd floor and is pretty much an explosion of pink, a bit like the American Girl cafe in Chicago. Although in this case everything is pink and covered with Hello Kitty.

As a kid I loved Hello Kitty, my aunt had sent me a plush of her when she was living in Japan. Then I collected (or tried to collect) the movies/cartoons and a lot of the play sets, but after awhile my love of Hello Kitty just petered out. But it was still nice to look around at all the stuff in the shop and order our snacks and drinks. There is however one drink per person rule. I ordered their matcha latte which was a bit too full and when I took my eye off of it to turn around and watch where I was going instead caused it to spill and thus ruin some of the latte art. So lesson learned, if you’ve got cool latte art, keep your eye on it the whole time, because no matter how much your carrying or if you think you’ve got it, it will get ruined pretty quickly. I should have snapped a photo of it while it was sitting there but I was in a bit of a hurry to get back to our table with everything and it just didn’t work out. We tried the cookie and cream cake and a brownie as well. Both were remarkably sweet and a bit too much for me. The cookie and cream cake was a bit like a poorly done cheesecake with a strong taste of cream cheese. The brownie had nuts in it but only in one corner.

Located at 28 Myeongdong 4-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul the cafe is open daily from 10am until 10pm.
