My friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant while she was showing me her favorite spots in Shibuya. We thought it’d be a nice place to relax and for me to get something to drink. However they have a policy that every person must order food and a drink in order to stay and since my friend’s stomach was upset there was no way that was going to happen. So instead I flipped through their cute pocket watch menu and then made a reservation for one for my last full day in Tokyo.
When I came back it was a lot busier then our random afternoon that we stumbled upon it. Not packed, but just a bit busier. The entire staff wore costumes and guests are given their choice of rabbit ears, white or black to wear before being led to a table. I didn’t get the best seat since I was on my own, but my chair was comfortable and I had a decent view of the rest of the restaurant like the beautiful lit up carosel that groups were eating at.
I was given a menu with English and Japanese and decided on the Ladies Garden Salad Lunch, figuring I’d eaten enough noodles and unhealthy foods and should probably try for something healthy. I also ordered a non-alchoholic cocktail called Tea Party with Alice.
My drink arrived first, decorated with an orchid and rose. I was prepared for my food to taste bad, for my drink to be bitter, but I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet and refreshing it was, a bit mango-esq. Their evening menu puts in quotes “Take a nap wrapped in the aroma of herbs” next to it and I was very happy with my drink.
My waitress tried to explain everything to me. My drink, my meal, but it was all in Japanese and beyond my very very basic Japanese language skills. My bowl of salad came out chilled much to my surprise. It had lettuce, corn, broccoli, tomato, ham, and salmon. In the tea cup was the dressing, a carrot dressing that I loved. In the other cup, the one on the left, was a cold pumpkin soup which was also delicious. I ate everything given to me and was pretty happy. It was about the same price as my meal at the Ghibli Cafe, my drink was 700 yen and the salad was 1,200 yen. I had a lot of fun, even by myself, listening to music from the animated Alice films and enjoying all the Alice themed things around.
