After getting my souvenir at the aquarium shop and picking up some souvenirs I was starving. I didn’t know what I wanted to eat. The streets I tended to walk on always had people outside with menus to try and lure you back to their restaurant. I thought maybe I’d go up to someone outside a Route 88 or a Sam’s Inn and see what their menus had to offer. (Both are chains that had many restaurants in the same area). But it was raining and not as many people with menus were out and about. I found one lady whose restaurant sold Agu pork (a special local pork) Shabu Shabu and after clarifying it was okay for me to have shabu shabu by myself I followed her up a hill and down an alley past some Izakayas to 海鮮料理 一 one.
I was sat at a fancy table with a white table cloth and I looked over the menu. There was floor seating and it seemed like I was the only customer. I ordered Agu shabu-shabu for one and was surprised when my meat showed up first. Generally vegetables and mushrooms appear first because they take longer to cook and add flavor to the broth. I wondered if there’d been a miscommunication and I’d accidentally just ordered a plate full of meat. But eventually the vegetables came.
It also came with some sauces and a small side dish before the brought me my next round which prior to eating me had picked udon and the me who received the udon was stuffed.
It was a lot of food and I did realize eventually that there were other people in the restaurant. Mostly people it seemed coming from the Izakayas or for work dinners and going into rooms in the back. Somehow I had managed to end up with a room full of tables all to myself. I really enjoyed my shabu shabu and I was delighted that I could eat it without needing other people to share it.
It wasn’t the cheapest meal I had in Okinawa but it was nice. (2,800 yen) However shabu shabu isn’t 海鮮料理 一 one’s only specialty. Their other specialty is seafood. They’ve got practically any fancy seafood meal you could want.
海鮮料理 一 one opens daily at 5pm and is open until midnight every day with last order at 11pm. The last order for drinks is at midnight.
