Every country has their street food. Little stands on the side of the street selling delicious smelling foods. I didn’t even make a dent in the amount of foods offered but I did try a bit. Click on the photos to read little bit more on some of the things I tried.
technically part of my first night dinner this strawberry slushie drink also included a layer of yogurt. Very refreshing. Plus a friend of mine always suggests eating yogurt as soon as you get somewhere new to get some of the local bacteria so the likely hood of getting sick drops, a bit.
A cup of corn? Not super exciting but this corn was cooked and mixed with condensed milk (a favorite in Thailand) and a couple other types of powders making it an interestingly sweet/salty snack
Breakfast of champions. A new hostelmate took us out for breakfast but first making quick stops at all his favorite food stands, starting with this sweet meat on a stick.
Second stop on the street food breakfast was this. Delicious and greasy sweet potato fries. They were amazing.
This is the beauty of street food. And it comes all over and in all sorts of different ways. Go up to a stand with coconut ice cream on the sign and watch them hack a coconut in half with a giant knife. Then they take a different tool and scrape away at the meat so it’s loose at the bottom. They scoop in a bit of ice cream, add some toppings and viola. This coconut ice cream sundae included chocolate syrup and peanuts and was AMAZING.
Everywhere is fruit. You can get fruit on a stick or grounded into a drink. I was constantly drinking bright red freshly juiced pomegranate juice. Note that these bottles are tiny and on a hot day you might just finish it five steps away from the stand you bought it from. This one is like a palm sugar drink. Palm sugar is a popular form of sweetener on Bangkok and tends to make things green. I was on a tour and the lady suggested I try the drink and it was nice and sweet.
Fresh coconut milk? Yes please. Bangkok has two different types of coconut. Old coconut (the kind I’m familiar with, aka brown and fuzzy) and young coconut that are big and green. Well even though this one is tiny because it was my last night and the stall was closing, it is a young coconut. Young coconuts are preferred for drinking from because they’re sweeter and lack that kinda bitter taste the older ones get. It was the perfect size and quite fun to just walk around drinking from a coconut.
