After my tour of the floating market my tour guide suggested that I visit Wat Arun. She got me to the pier to cross the river to get to the temple and I made my way over. It was only a couple baht to cross and not too long of a wait. The temperature had dropped from an afternoon rain and it was surprisingly chilly instead of hot and humid. The Temple of Dawn was confusing for me. I got lost at first trying to follow google maps to the temple and ending up on a side street packed with tuk tuks and taxi’s.
It only costs 50 baht to enter and is open from 8-5:30. It’s across the river from Wat Pho and the Grand Palace and is a lot different from the other temples with steep steps and big pillars.
Luckily even though I got lost a lot in little back alleyways there were plenty of cats to stop and look at. So I was able to make myself believe that I looked like I knew what I was doing rather than looking like a silly tourist who’d gone the wrong way.
I’m not sure if I was tired from spending a major part of my day at the floating markets or if it was because a lot of the temple was undergoing construction but I didn’t spend a lot of time there. The temple was founded a long long time ago, around 1656 BE but the spires which make it stick out are a bit newer. It’s a beautiful temple but there just wasn’t much for me to see or do there.
