Chiles Mexican Grill is a small shop in Harajuku off the busyness of Takeshita street. They offer a variety of Mexican food like burritos, fajitas, quesadillas, tacos, burrito bowls and nachos. The staff speaks Spanish, English, and Japanese. I mostly just wanted guacamole and horchata so I scoured the menu for anything that would come with it which led me to asking the staff if this and that were spicy, finding that they were and ending up with a ham and cheese quesadillas (780¥). Not the most adventurous item I had hoped to order.
It was good. Cheese and ham in a flour tortilla, very hard to go wrong with that. But it also came with salsa, sour cream and guacamole. They were tiny which was disappointing. So my friend and I ordered guacamole chips (400¥) which came with more guacamole and a nice selection of warm corn chips. The horchata (500¥) was also pretty good.
The only note I would give is to be careful about extra fees. Certain things may add to your bill. Like my friend and I splitting the guacamole chips when we tried to pay meant they upped the taxes. There’s some signs up as warning for other things that may hike up how much you pay so just keep an eye on it and be careful. They will also let you know for things like splitting an item on two bills. Other than that I found the food delicious.
The restaurant is a bit small with limited seating. There are doors on either side so just take your pick which street you want to enter from/exit from and there is one bathroom with no stalls. They are open from 11am until 4pm on Mondays, 11am-9pm Tuesday-Friday, 10am-10pm on Saturdays, and 10am-8pm on Sundays.
