In this episode, I’m joined by Nathalie. She’s a YouTuber with two channels: a beauty channel called Fabulous Nat and a Traveling channel called Traveling Nat. She has a background in dance and non for profits but is probably most well known as an influencer who shared her experiences and life as a Native English Teacher in South Korea. In this episode, she talks about being a Black influencer, her experiences, and the importance of travel within the Black community.

Black Travel Influencers and Social Media to Follow:
The Black community spends an estimated $63 billion on travel however when you visit popular travel companies the majority of them don’t market towards the Black community. They don’t feature Black travelers or hire them. There is a prevailing myth that Black people don’t travel. Many companies have risen up to try and promote and show that Black people are traveling and showcase them in the hopes of inspiring more people to travel and to prove this myth false. Nathalie is an influencer doing this.
Want to see and support the companies promoting Black travelers? Here’s a collection of a few to check out:
Black Girl Travel aka Globalnista: “is a private travel club for fun-loving travelers.” Not wanting to travel alone? Check out their tours and join a group on a trip or book a private one. Also read the stories for some travel inspo.
Black Travel Alliance: “The mission of the Black Travel Alliance is to support Black content creators around the world and increase their representation in the travel industry, including but not limited to employment, conferences, and media.” Join them or check out their KPI’s (key performance Indices) where they’re keeping a list and evaluating all the companies that promised to be better with #BlackLivesMatter and where they are on their goals. They also post job listings.
Outdoor Afro: “Outdoor Afro has become the nation’s leading, cutting edge network that celebrates and inspires Black connections and leadership in nature.” Join them on a trip into the outdoors, learn or work on conservation or if you love to be out in the outdoors think about joining as one of their leaders to take people out into the wild to embrace nature.
Travel Noire: “to make international travel more inclusive and representative for explorers of color.” Check out their City Pages, their recommended locations whether it’s places to eat or experiences, join their community, read their tips or check out their deals on travel.
Some Instagrams to inspire you to travel. Not an exhaustive list. Have recommendations? Or your own favorites that inspire you? Let me know.
