Bite’s Asian Tapas

Bite’s Asian Tapas is located in Lakeview near the Belmont red/brown line stop at 3313 North Clark Street. A friend of mine wanted to go so we went at 5pm when their dinner time starts. It wasn’t busy and no one was really around, we ended up waiting until someone noticed us and they asked if we wanted to sit on the patio. It was a hot day and we were unsure if we wanted to be outside or enjoy the air conditioning, but ended up sitting out on the patio.

I ordered a thai tea latte, and one of my friends ordered Hibiscuis Ale from Revolutionary Brewery which wasn’t bad but as a person who doesn’t drink a lot who was with people who don’t drink a lot, it was hard for the three of us to finish it. The thai tea latte was warm and sweet but fun to try since I love Thai iced tea.

We decided to split as semi-appetizers garlic edamame and samosas. The garlic edamame was spicy so I couldn’t eat a lot of it.

The samosas had a slight kick to them from the curry inside of them, which with the spice from the edamame already burning my mouth it didn’t help. The samosas came with a yogurt and cilantro dipping sauce that helped, I couldn’t taste the cilantro and I’m unsure if that’s because of what the spice did to my taste buds. One of my friends ordered the green gyoza which was more edamame and mixed vegetables, it came with a caramelized whisky soy sauce and a creamy wasabi honey mayo that I found sweet rather than spicy and enjoyed.

My other friend ordered the crab croquettes which came with the honey wasabi cream and was rather small but good, and  bites wings.

I ordered chicken katsu which was under the Chinese buns/ gua bao section of the menu.  The chicken katsu had a bbq like sauce drizzled on it and was sitting on top of a flat Chinese bun with bits of lettuce, nori and sesame. I liked it.

We also decided to split a dessert and went with cookie dough chopsticks. The cookie dough chopsticks were really hard to split between three people, the outside was hard and the inside was filled with warm liquid cookie dough.

We sat outside by ourselves the majority of the dinner and we enjoyed the atmosphere and probably would have enjoyed the atmosphere inside as well. If it had been super sunny and blistering hot like we had feared there were many umbrella’s set out to block the sun and the patio is not only towards the back of the restaurant but surrounded by taller apartment buildings that block out the sun. We enjoyed the food despite the small portions that were expected for the most part (minus the really small comparative size of the crab croquettes) but we were mostly surprised by the spicy levels of the garlic edamame. We did get the garlic edamame for free by liking the restaurant on Facebook and it seems they have a couple other discounts/deals going on as well.  They also do a brunch.
